AN energetic performance, faultless vocals, and a fierce fan base - Mimi Webb’s gig in Bournemouth was not one to miss.
Mimi Webb’s ‘Amelia’ tour finally made its stop at the 02 Academy Bournemouth on Saturday night.
The singer-songwriter shot to fame in 2020 after a famous TikToker shared her song ‘Before I Go’.
She has since gained thousands of followers and fans of her own.
Her popularity and success became evident when the venue opened its doors at 7pm and hundreds of fans flocked in.
Most were young - perhaps those who had followed Mimi’s social media-based rise to fame - and could be seen rocking the singer’s branded T-shirts and hoodies.
I was told by two fans they had been waiting outside the venue since 4pm to get a front-row view at the gig.
But despite not arriving early, I was still able to get myself a good standing spot with a clear view of the stage.
Shortly after 9pm, the venue lights switched, and an instrumental began to fade in - it was time for Mimi Webb.
The crowd erupted in roars and screams as the band took to the stage and began to play the intro of ‘Ghost Of You’.
Mimi’s arrival came just in time to sing the first lyrics of “seven days, since you went and found some space” with fans singing along.
Rocking an all-black diamante catsuit and a beaming smile, Mimi bounced around the pink-lit stage, radiating energy and power- she was truly setting the tone for the evening.
As ‘Ghost of You’ came to an end, and not one lyric had been missed by fans, Mimi took time to address the crowd and thank them for coming.
She then set off on an epic first-half set list featuring songs ‘24/5’, ‘See you Soon’ and ‘Halfway.’
Her hit single ‘Good Without’ was also on the list; this mellow-pop heartbreak song had fans clinging on to each other and swaying with their phone torches in the air.
After a quick trip backstage for an outfit change, she returned in a stylish metallic lilac two-piece.
She kicked off the second half of the evening with ‘The Other Side’, carrying just as much energy and girl power as before.
Fans then enjoyed even more of Mimi’s hits, including ‘Freezing’, ‘Dumb Love’ and the song that saw her first go viral, ‘Before I Go’.
The gig also featured a special acoustic of ‘Last Train to London’, seeing the singer sit on the stage floor with her guitarist and give a personal performance to fans.
This stripped-back version really highlighted Mimi's incredible vocals and her pure talent.
On reflection, Mimi’s voice was actually faultless throughout. Not many singers can sound exactly the same on stage as they do on the radio - especially when they are running and dancing around the stage.
What also stood out was how loved she was by her fans, and how much she loved them back. Looking around, you’d struggle to catch a crowd member who didn’t know the words to her songs or didn’t have a huge smile on their face.
The night concluded with two lively performances of ‘Red Flags’ and ‘House on Fire’. The crowd bounced and sang along, with many trying to get Mimi’s attention for one last time before she left the stage.
And then it was over.
I left the venue feeling very impressed. Mimi was friendly, energetic, confident, and most importantly an incredible live singer. She was a true pop powerhouse.
