A WOMAN has slammed a council over the condition of blocked drains that have caused "awful" flooding in her village.

Dee Dunn has made multiple calls to Hampshire County Council in recent months over the condition of drains in Priest Lane, Sopley.

The 67-year-old has complained that they are blocked and “oozing with mud” causing large puddles to form on the pavement and road outside her house.

She said: “I just feel like something needs to be done about this. It’s just been getting worse and worse.”

Dee first noticed problems with the drains during the winter when water would pool on the road and then ice over in freezing conditions.

She likened the road to an “ice rink” and told how it caused one driver to spin and crash their car into her neighbour’s house.

But now - Dee is more concerned about cars splashing residents as they drive through the water puddles in the road.

She said: “Cars come zooming round the corner and they don’t see you before it’s too late and then they splash you.

“We have one old aged pensioner living here who is partially blind, another old age pensioner who has one leg - they cannot walk around there without getting splashed.”

While Dee has reported the blocked drains to Hampshire County Council, and the authority has sent contractors out for repairs, she says the issue is not being dealt with "properly".

She said: “They’re coming out to do it, but they’re not doing it properly.

"The day after they did it, it was oozing with mud again and we’re back to square one.”

The Daily Echo contacted Hampshire County Council with Dee's concerns.

A spokesperson said: “We are aware of the drainage issue at Sopley and having cleared the blockages a number of times already, we have now arranged for further work to be undertaken to investigate the underlying cause of the problem.”
