Looking ahead, the Met Office says: "A generally unsettled start to this period, with outbreaks of rain or showers, some of which could be heavy and thundery.
"Outside of any wet weather, it should feel quite warm in the sunshine and light winds, but some eastern coasts of England and Scotland may continue to be affected by low cloud at times, at least at first.
"With time, high pressure is expected to extend from the southwest, with frontal zones increasingly being steered towards the northwest of the UK.
"Here, it will remain rather changeable and windy at times, but elsewhere, more in the way of drier or brighter weather seems possible. Temperatures look to average out close to or a little above normal."
