AN EXPANDING greeting cards and gifts retailer looks set to move into a high street unit left empty since Christmas.

Card Factory has applied for new signage as part of plans for it to move into Poole High Street, joining an existing branch less than 0.3 miles away.

The desired unit, opposite Betfred and next to the rail crossing, was last occupied by a G&T World of Cards store until its closure on Christmas Eve.

Since then, the two-storey art deco building has remained empty.

Prior to that, it was a Game store.

Jack Wright, store opening and closure manager for Card Factory, said: “The unit itself is not currently listed, however, the new signage scheme has been designed with the conservation status of the area, and the existing properties surrounding in mind.

“The existing timber shop front is to remain, being thoroughly cleaned down with only minor decoration works where required. Any new decoration works will match the existing white finish of the shop front.”

Card Factory has an existing branch in the nearby Dolphin Shopping Centre, as well as in Bournemouth, Christchurch, Wimborne and New Milton.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Card Factory profits had jumped 368.5 per cent to £52.4m for its last trading year. It also reported that its physical shops were performing better than online.

Card Factory has been approached for comment.
