A “WONDERFUL” time was had by all at this year’s Corfe Mullen Carnival.

The annual charity event made its return on Saturday, June 10, seeing hundreds of people flock to the village for an afternoon of entertainment.

Visitors enjoyed a dog show, shopping stalls, fairground rides, a falconry display and even alpaca petting.

The main attraction, a colourful street parade leading to Corfe Mullen Recreation Ground, welcomed its typically large crowds.

Children and families lined the streets just before 1pm to enjoy the showcase of participating floats, walkers, and vehicles.

Included in the lineup was Chitty Bang Bang, a Batmobile, three different marching bands and a ‘save the bees’ float by Jack and Jill Nursery in Corfe Mullen.

The nursery’s deputy manager, Sally Jameson, said the children loved getting involved.

She told the Daily Echo: “It’s been crazy, loud, and lively. The children might only be three but they can outsing everyone else here.

“It’s about getting them involved in the community, and showing them how we can support different events.”

Sisters Stella Craig and Elaine Gosling were also involved in this year’s carnival. They have been parading with the ‘Merlin Beavers’ for around 30 years.

Stella said: “It’s a community thing. It’s always been part of Corfe Mullen, and it’s something that everyone does.

“It’s great. Look at all the children’s faces. They really enjoy it.”

The parade was led by carnival royals Prince John Connors and Princess Amiya Cliffe, and they were followed by vehicles transporting the carnival judges and the town mayor.

The proceeds of this year’s Corfe Mullen Carnival are being directed to the charities Poole Sailability, Going for Bust and The Green Island Holiday Trust.

Collections were taken for the charities during the street parade, and a number of stalls raised funds with tombola, games and activities.

Martin Harrison, life-president of the carnival committee, said: “As ever, it’s so good to see such a diverse mix of groups from our community all joining together and having fun at the carnival.

“I’ve been on the carnival committee for well over forty years now and it’s amazing to see what our event has grown into.”
