THE company behind an oil spill in Poole Harbour has responded to the protesters calling for its license to be revoked.

Perenco has assured the Extinction Rebellion activists there have been no further spillages since the ‘major incident’ earlier this year.

As reported, around 200 barrels of reservoir fluid was released into Poole Harbour on March 26.

The spill, which was 15 per cent oil, came from a pipeline at Wytch Farm- a site operated by Perenco.

Following the incident, Extinction Rebellion activists have held three protests calling for the oil and gas company’s operating permits and licence to be revoked.

The most recent protest was held at Poole Quay on Sunday.

On Sunday evening, a spokesperson for Perenco said: “On March 26, a leak of reservoir fluids (85 per cent produced water and 15 per cent produced oil) was identified in one of the pipelines in the Wytch Farm field.

“The production was shut down immediately. There has been no further loss of containment to Poole Harbour due to the pipeline being immediately isolated and floating booms to protect the harbour being deployed within a matter of hours.

“The 24/7 cleaning then the remediation operations at the release point, undertaken in close consultation with all relevant stakeholders and agencies, have since made very good progress.”

Perenco added an investigation into the incident remains on going, and the affected pipline will be kept offline until the investigation is completed.

The company has also established a claims line for anyone affected by the incident.
