AN UNAUTHORISED encampment remains at a Bournemouth park one week after it was first reported.
Seven caravans and associated vans and cars remain at Meyrick Park this afternoon (June 14) after they initially broke into the field on June 7.
Both the police and council are aware of the encampment, but questions have been raised over why the travellers remain at the park.
Talbot Woods ward councillor Matthew Gillett said: “They were presented with an eviction notice, but these ones appear to be a little more belligerent than the others a few weeks ago.
“I’ve had a resident contact me when they first came one site.
“When I went down there on Sunday to speak to one of the groups [of travellers], there were more on site so some have gone.”
A Dorset Police spokesman previously said officers attended and that the force has been liaising with the local authority.
Giving an update on June 14, Dorset Police said: “Officers are liaising with the local authority and will continue to monitor the situation, alongside our local partner agencies, and will take appropriate further action if required.”
BCP Council meanwhile said last Wednesday they are “carrying out the statutory welfare and educational needs assessment”.
We have approached the council for further comment.
