A DEVASTATING fire tore through a house in Christchurch last night. 

Multiple fire crews across two counties rushed to a property fire in Somerford Road, near the Stroud Park Avenue junction, on Tuesday night. 

Emergency services were called to the fire at 10.10pm and the fire brigade sent crews from Christchurch, Springbourne, Redhill Park, Westbourne, Ferndown and New Milton. 

A spokeswoman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 10:10pm yesterday evening with reports of a property fire on Somerford Road, Christchurch. 

"Firefighters from Christchurch, Springbourne, Redhill Park, Westbourne, Ferndown, Hamworthy and a Hampshire appliance from New Milton were mobilised. 

"On arrival crews found a three storey derelict building with the roof space well alight, six breathing apparatus wearers used hose reel jets and 3 main lines to extinguish the fire. 

"The stop came through at 11:32pm and crews remained on scene until just after 2am this morning.  The cause is unknown and no casualties have been reported."

 

Police closed the road and paramedics were reportedly on scene. 

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "Dorset Police received a request from the fire service at 10.23pm on Tuesday 20 June 2023 to assist with road closures as firefighters responded to a building fire in Somerford Road in Christchurch.

"Officers attended and a cordon was put in place as the fire was dealt with. There were no reports of any injuries.

"Officers are continuing to liaise with the fire service to establish the cause of the fire."
