A TASTE of Mexico City is set to be coming to Bournemouth for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Taco Taco opened on Charminster Road back in February. In the morning it was the greasy spoon café, the Rumbin’ Tum, open for breakfast and lunch.

But then in the evenings, it offered a taste of Mexico.

After a 'huge success' since opening, it will bring Mexican twists to traditional breakfasts.

Owners George Mitchell and Adam Szulczynski initially ran the restaurant alongside the café, which had been running for nearly 20 years.

Both George and Adam are chefs who met while working at The Larder House in Southbourne.

The pair closed the café at 2pm, and, after changing over the signage, lighting and decoration, Taco Taco would open in the evenings.

But from October 8, the Rumbin’ Tum will be closing its doors for the final time.

They will then renovate the premises before it reopens as Taco Taco permanently.

George said they had had a really positive response to the change, since it was announced on Sunday.

“Prior to making the announcement, we’ve had lots of customers, Taco Taco customers especially, say they think it’s fantastic that we do all the switch over,” he said.

“But at the end of the day, people want a Mexican breakfast, they don’t want an English breakfast.

“We’re going to be focusing on classic breakfasts that people might know, like eggs Benedict or pancakes or Shakshuka, something people know, but with a Mexican twist on it.”

The restaurant’s dinner menu offers fresh, authentic Mexican food, something that George says cannot be found anywhere in Dorset.

“A lot of British people’s perceptions of Mexican food is very far from what it actually is,” George said.

“A lot of people may have only had Taco Bell, but Taco Bell isn’t actually Mexican food, its TexMex, its an American version, it’s completely different.

“We are importing things from Mexico, we’re making a lot of things onsite ourselves as well, and we’re just using really good produce. Everything is homemade, we don’t buy anything in at all.

“We’re loving what we’re doing.”

The restaurant sources all their meat from their local butcher, LFB Meats, and everything is prepared in house.

Imported beers and soft drinks from Mexico offer authentic beverages, with Spanish and ‘incredible’ English wines on the menu.

George said they are sourcing everything locally down to micro-herbs that they get from a producer in Poole who grows them at home.

Originally, the pair planned to open a delivery-only business, but they decided to go for a dine-in only restaurant when they took over at the café.

Since opening, Taco Taco has ‘taken off’.

George said: “We’ve got over 100 reviews, and they’re all five stars.

“People are loving this.”
