PUPILS at a Christian school graded inadequate by Ofsted are being helped to find new education.

BCP Council has been working to find new schools for the pupils of Bournemouth Christian School ahead of its closure in August.

The local authority said it has been ‘in discussions’ with the school’s management, as well as the parents of students, to find the ‘most appropriate’ alternative settings.

Found in Wimborne Road, Bournemouth Christian School is attended by 23 pupils between the ages of three and 18, and charges annual fees of between £4,800 to £7,200 for day pupils.

When Ofsted inspectors visited the school in April, they found it to be operating through a “Christian worldview” and teaching a “factually inaccurate” curriculum.

They also noted the school was “unsafe” and that there were “no sufficient measures in place to make sure that pupils cannot leave the school building without staff’s knowledge.”

The school was then given an overall grading of inadequate.

At the beginning of July, parents were sent a letter which announced Bournemouth Christian School would be closing at the end of the summer term in August ‘in light of the report’.

It added that it would be working with BCP Council to make arrangements for pupils ahead of the new term starting in September.

The local authority has now confirmed its involvement.

Councillor Richard Burton, BCP Council portfolio holder for children and young people said: "Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council are in discussions with the management and governors of the school, so that educational next steps, children’s courses’ handover and annual reviews can be scheduled as soon as possible.

“The SEND team is meeting with the school this week and is in the process of speaking to parents to find the most appropriate alternative school or setting in time for the new term in September."

The Daily Echo has contacted Bournemouth Christian School for a comment and is awaiting a response.
