The team behind the Bobby’s restoration project have thanked the public for their patience as they prepare to unveil a series of new tenants.

The major investment in the prominent Bournemouth town centre site is picking up pace.

Since opening in September 2021, work has continued on renovations to future proof the 100-year-old building and repurpose it while respecting its heritage.

Andy Birt, Bobby’s general manager, said: “It’s hard to believe that we are two years and just over halfway through the Bobby’s redevelopment and it is starting to take shape.

“The building and recent global events have thrown us many curve balls as we have and continue to restore Bobby’s to its former glory, and we are so very grateful for the public's patience.”

Bobby’s, which has a 25-year lease on the site, is currently home to a beauty hall, makers market and GIANT art gallery, and new additions are set to be revealed this month.

It is backed and funded by patient capital for social impact, in similar fashion to sister building The Avenue in Commercial Road.

Examples of the work to preserve the building’s history include the ornate ceilings on the first floor and brass window frames on the ground floor.

The scaffolding currently up outside the front of the building has allowed general maintenance to take place as well as replacement of windows on the third floor and balcony repairs on the four floor in preparation for the arrival of new tenants.

Out of sight from residents on the ground, a £4million reparation of the roof is due to start towards the end of the year.

“We are in a great position that the landlord has a patient view on capital return, and this is enabling us to be take time to make the right decisions and maintain our commitment to find and create a unique mix of offer from local, national and international partners and brands,” Mr Birt said.

Bournemouth Echo:

“We are excited that over the next two weeks we will be able to announce a number of fantastic offers that we believe will add real strength to Bobby’s, the Bournemouth high-street and local community.”
