Bournemouth’s famous aquarium is set to celebrate its 25th anniversary this weekend.
Visitors are promised a fin-tastic day as the beachfront aquatic attraction marks a quarter of a century on Saturday, July 22.
Since opening its doors in 1998, the oceanarium has welcomed thousands of visitors every year to view its stunning array of sea life.
To celebrate the milestone, visitors will be able to see the newest residents at Oceanarium, including two cownose stingrays and a guitarfish.
The attraction will also reveal a penguin chick which has recently joined the colony.
Oceanarium has collaborated with St Michael’s Primary School, with pebbles painted by year five students in the shape of a 25 to be displayed at the Penguin Beach Encounter.
This gesture means the partnership with the school has come full circle, as students from the school laid bricks ahead of Oceanarium’s launch day in 1998.

Marketing manager Nicola Maklouf said: “We have come a long way over the last 25 years and the Oceanarium has played such a large role in people’s lives, seeing generations of families creating memories, whilst visiting us for a fun and educational day out.
“We have spent years dedicating time to educate our visitors about the importance of conservation, and how they can contribute to help make the planet greener.
“It is important for us to celebrate its silver anniversary as a way to thank the millions of people that have visited from far and wide, to the locals and members who have supported us from the very start and have continued to do so throughout the years.
“The 25th anniversary is a chance to have fun with your family and kickstart the summer holidays with a bang.”
Children will also be entertained with meet and greets with TV characters including SpongeBob SquarePants, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Michelangelo, and Octonauts’ Captain Barnacles.
To further celebrate the occasion, visitors can get 25 per cent off all tickets from Friday, July 21, to Monday 24, by using the code OCEANARIUM2.
