A TEENAGER took his own life in his home only three years after his sister died, an inquest heard.

Leighton Rogers, 19, was found in his flat on Albert Road, Weymouth on the evening of February 4, 2023.

An inquest, held at Bournemouth Town Hall on August 2, heard that Leighton was a ‘young man who was fit, healthy and active and clearly adored by his family’.

Leighton competed professionally in martial arts and was saving to travel to Thailand for further training.

Senior coroner for Dorset, Rachael Griffin, said Leighton’s mental health began to decline after being subject of an unspecified criminal case, which he and his family believed he was not guilty of.

Leighton’s mother, Selena Bush, said the court case had taken a toll on him and that she noticed a change in his behaviour.

Days before Leighton was due to return to court, he was found unresponsive in his home.

The coroner concluded that Leighton unfortunately died from suicide.

In October 2019, Leighton and his family also lost his sister, Courtney Kilvert, to suicide.

As reported, Courtney was found dead in Wyke Regis and her funeral was held at All Saints Church and a gathering was held at The Wyke Smugglers.

Courtney, 23, was described as a ‘beautiful, talented and kind’ young mother who aspired to go to university to study paleontology.

Leighton and Courtney’s mother said Leighton’s death came as a ‘massive shock’ because he said he would never do what his sister did, but that ‘he was scared, and she does not blame him’.

“Leighton set up a fundraising page for Courtney and was always talking to people about mental health,” said Mrs Bush.

“Leighton was my rock when Courtney died.”
