POLICE caught an alleged shoplifter while out discussing the very matter in a supermarket in Poole.
PCs Matt and Josh, from Poole Police’s neighbourhood policing team, were out in Sainsbury’s in Poole high street on Friday, September 1.
They were out discussing problems with a number of shopliftings at the supermarket.
However, during their visit, they noticed somebody was ‘leaving the shop without paying for his goods’.
The man involved was reluctant to give his details, according to the officers, but eventually, with the help of a fingerprint ID kit, they soon knew who he was.
A police spokesperson said: “This chap didn't want to provide his name because he was wanted on a fail to appear warrant in Hampshire.”
He was then arrested and taken to the police station.
A failure to appear warrant is an arrest warrant issued during criminal proceedings when a defendant fails to appear in court.
Failure to appear in court is an offence for which defendants can be punished, for example with a fine or prison sentence.
