A GYM in Poole has reopened after being rescued by closure last month.
Fitness First in Fleetsbridge, Poole announced its shock closure in August after being in operation for more than 15 years.
The site said the ‘difficult decision’ was made following the ‘devastating impact’ of the pandemic which resulted in a loss of members.
In a previous report, a Fitness First spokesperson said: “Following the devastating impact the Covid-19 lockdowns had on our Poole club, we have fewer members using the facility and it is no longer commercially viable to continue operating it.”
However, weeks after the announced closure YMCA Bournemouth, a community support charity, notified staff and members that it will be taking over the gym under a new name.
Bayside Fitness Club officially launched on Friday, September 1, with all previous staff from Fitness First being transferred to the new gym.
YMCA have emphasised that the takeover was not a purchase, and that the charity are working closely with the current landlord.

When announcing the reopening, CEO of YMCA, Gareth Sherwood, said the leisure club was 'cherished' by the local community and that he wanted to ensure the venue continues to operate for 'many years to come'.
Upon the initial opening on Friday, Gareth said: “I’m delighted to celebrate the official launch of Bayside Fitness Club with the team.
“The local community has worked with us to ensure their club continues to thrive; they and the staff are the real heroes.
“YMCA is committed to help this community flourish and we will continue to invest in leisure for the area.
“We’re grateful for all the support we’ve received so far and are looking forward to developing strong relationships through our community-first approach to health and wellbeing.”
The new club will be open 6am to 10pm from Monday to Thursday, 6am to 9pm on Fridays and 8am to 8pm on the weekend.
BCP Council employees and Blue Light Card holders can benefit from a discounted membership at the site.
Others in the community can access flexible membership options, including day, week and month passes.
