TANK buffs and film fans can explore a mechanical movie star at a special event at a Dorset museum.
The Fury experience day at the Tank Museum on Saturday, October 7, will give visitors the chance to explore the Sherman tank that starred in the title role of the film with Brad Pitt.
This will be the last chance to explore the tank, discovering how difficult compromises had to be made with historical accuracy to create a film for cinematic audiences.
The tank starred alongside the museum’s Tiger, which is the only running Tiger in the world, nearly a decade ago.
Museum curator, David Willey, said: “In terms of the western allies, The Sherman was a key tank during WWII. It was made in such vast numbers, that it served not only the Americans but the British, Russian and Commonwealth armies in all theatres of war.
“Visitors to the experience day will be able to find out more about how the Museum advised the ‘Fury’ production team and cast and explore the debates that arose from loaning priceless historic artefacts to a Hollywood production.”
The event will feature expert talks and tours, along with the chance to look inside the Sherman M4A2E8 ‘Fury’ tank in the Tanks for the Memories exhibition, where other props from the film can also be seen.
