THOUSANDS flocked to Bournemouth beach today as temperatures soared.
The beach was packed with residents and visitors on Saturday, September 9, keen to bathe in what is likely to be the last hot weather of the year.
Temperatures peaked close to 30 degrees, as many dipped their toes in the sea or enjoyed ice creams to cool off.
Penny Guess, 27, and Andrew Barnes, 34, came from Bristol for the triathlon, which is set to take place on Sunday, September 10, and were enjoying a day at the beach beforehand.
“We came down last year to do it, and we’ve come back again this year,” Penny said.
“We enjoyed it last year, [we’re] staying in the Travelodge so right on the front.
She added: “When we came down this time last year there were probably two people on the beach.
“This is insane, I’ve never been on a beach this busy. Its lovely.”
Andrew said the pair had had some food, got some lollies and watched some of the volleyball, the UK beach tour finals, which were taking place next to Bournemouth Pier.
Bournemouth residents Tony and Helena Tilley were at the beach with their grandchildren.
“We love being in Bournemouth, its lovely,” Helena said.
“It’s just on a day like today at the weekend, it is very busy.”
Tony agreed, adding: “The beach is a wonderful beach, we’ve just come back from Spain and you get better weather there but the beaches aren’t always as nice.
“It’s a wonderful place.”
Isabella, 26, came with her mum, Kate, 52, and also said that the beach was ‘better than Spain’.
“We came four days ago from London, it was a last minute decision,” she said.
“We’re enjoying it, it’s very nice.”
Megan Lee took the three-hour drive down from Bristol with Anton Cane and their daughter.
She said she had been to Bournemouth beach once before, last year, and said the beach was ‘lovely’.
“Now we’re finally parked, which took a long time, it’s nice,” she said.
She added: “It’s a bit rammed.”
The Met Office is forecasting another warm day on Sunday, September 10, with the chance of thunderstorms around lunchtime.
