A MAN was rushed to hospital after a suspected arson attack at a home in Poole

A large 999 response rushed to a house in Dale Valley Road, Oakdale, after a blaze broke out on the first-floor bedroom. 

Flames and black smoke billowed from the property as multiple firefighters tackled the blaze on Saturday night, bringing it under control around an hour later. 

Although everybody was out of the house, a man had to be taken to hospital by paramedics due to smoke inhalation. 

One man, in his 40s, was arrested arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

A spokeswoman for Dorset Police said: "Dorset Police received a report at around 7.30pm on Saturday 16 September 2023 of a house fire in Dale Valley Road in Poole.

"Officers attended to assist the fire service. One person was reportedly removed from the property and taken to hospital to be checked over as a precaution.

"Following enquiries at the scene and liaison with the fire service, a man aged in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

"He has been released under investigation as detectives carry out further enquiries."

A spokeswoman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to a property on Dale Valley Road, Poole at 7.20pm on Saturday (16 September) for a fire in a first floor bedroom.  

“Five crews attended, from Redhill Park, Wimborne, Poole (x2) and Westbourne, and eight breathing apparatus wearers used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.  

“Everyone was out of the property when we arrived but one man was taken to hospital by ambulance suffering with smoke inhalation.  

“Our stop was at 8.23pm, and the incident has been left with the police as we believe the fire to have been started deliberately.”
