LOUD explosions were heard when a Land Rover was engulfed in flames.
The fire service were called to an old Land Rover Discovery on fire at Horton Road village green in Ashley Heath early this morning.
Witnesses heard “two or three explosions” followed by a couple of quieter bangs as the car was on fire shortly after 5am on Monday morning.
Daylight revealed the car had been extensively damaged by the blaze, with the bodywork stripped of its paint.
Police had wrapped tape around and they are now investigating the cause, of which is unknown at this moment in time.
A spokeswoman for Dorset Police said: “We were called at 5.35am to a report of a vehicle on fire in Horton Road in Ashley Heath.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of the fire. No arrests have been made.”
A spokeswoman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service added: “A crew from Ringwood attended a vehicle fire in Horton Road, Ashley Heath at 5.36am this morning.
“Two breathing apparatus wearers used one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire, which destroyed the vehicle, and our stop was at 6.34am.”
