CHRISTCHURCH Town Council has tabled another objection to expansion plans at a hotel.

Town council members said the latest plans for The Captains Club Hotel in Wick Lane did not address concerns they had previously raised.

As reported, FiveM Developments has been working with the hotel to expand the riverside site.

The developer’s vision is to create an extension at the rear of the building and add a third storey.

This would mean 29 new bedrooms and seven new suites at the hotel.

The proposal was first submitted in December 2022, but objected by Christchurch Town Council and then refused by BCP Council.

It was deemed that an expansion would negatively impact the hotel’s neighbours.

In August, the latest version of the scheme was submitted by FiveM Developments and was said to address the ‘main reasons’ for refusal.

While it was designed to the same scale, changes were made to window layouts and glazing to address concerns of properties being overlooked.

Christchurch Town Council planning and regulatory committee met on Tuesday, September 26, to discuss the latest plans.

The minutes from the meeting state: “A town centre ward member expressed concerns over the proposal’s adverse impact on car parking and increased traffic congestion; noise disturbance; and detrimental effect to the amenity of neighbouring residences due to overlooking and loss of privacy.

“She stated that the revised proposal had not effectively addressed the objections that were previously raised by the town council.”

It was resolved that Christchurch Town Council would raise an objection on the grounds that the developer had not made “sufficient changes to the proposal to meet the council’s previous objections”.

Members of the public also spoke at the meeting and raised concerns about the application.

One person said the proposal “remained mostly unchanged and continued to disregard previous objections and concerns.”

Another person pointed out that the proposal would bring about a “significant increase in noise disturbance, notably during the nighttime”.

A decision on the latest planning application is yet to be made by BCP Council.
