A SEARCH helicopter was scrambled to find a woman who ended up in the water off Bournemouth Pier over the weekend. 

Multiple emergency services were called to a concern for welfare of a woman in the early hours of Saturday, October 7. 

The ambulance service, Coastguard and police were all called out to the woman who “had got into difficulty”. 

She was eventually rescued and given care by paramedics. 

Southbourne Coastguard said: “Team tasked at 4.32am on October 7 by JRCC (Joint Rescue Coordination Centre) to a person in the water in area of Bournemouth Pier in difficulty. 

“Tasked alongside Poole Coastguard rescue team and both Poole RNLI lifeboats and Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 175. 

“Once on scene with police, ambulance and lifeboats [the] casualty was quickly located and recovered by the lifeboats to Coastguards on the beach where casualty was handed into the care of South Western Ambulance Service.  

“Once casualty was safe in the ambulance advice was given to other water users before returning to station.” 

A spokeswoman for Dorset Police said: “We were called at 4.20am on Saturday 7 October 2023 to a report raising concern for the welfare of a woman in the sea near to the Pier Approach in Bournemouth. 

“Officers attended with HM Coastguard and the ambulance service. The woman was brought to safety and taken to receive the appropriate care.”
