BCP Council is flying a peace flag outside the town hall in Bournemouth.

The UN flag is flown to show support for those who have been affected by the conflict in the Middle East, demonstrating hope for peace.

Many local authorities across the country are flying the flag, which is an internationally recognised symbol of peace.

Councillor Vikki Slade, leader of BCP Council said: “We are flying the peace flag to show that we are there for all the people living in BCP and around the world who are affected in any way by this terrible conflict.

“The flag of the United Nations speaks to the world’s hopes and dreams for peace and unity, and we are proud to fly it at our town hall.”

Earlier this week, Cllr Slade issued a statement to offer support to the community during the ongoing situation in Israel and Palestine.

Councillor Slade said: “Along with the rest of the world, we have watched the events unfolding in Israel and Gaza with horror and distress.

“The loss of life in recent days is appalling, and our hearts go out to all those affected.

“There will be families here in the BCP area with loved ones in the affected regions. Please know that we are here to help you in any way we can. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you need any support.

“We are incredibly proud of our multi-faith communities across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole and today, as always, we stand together as one community.”
