Friday. 12 o'clock.

Our first fight kicks off with some heavy hooks to the body from the White corner in the first round. The Black corner tries his best to defend his body, but predictably some of the hooks reach their target. Round one is fairly one-sided.

Round two begins similarly. The Black corner attempts some straight punches to the body but only lands a couple. The round ends prematurely with Black pausing the fight to take a breather.

“Great performance from the fighters”, says an onlooker. “I guess it showed some people that they need to get stronger”.

“All bark, no bite”, said another.

The final round gives a sense of déjà vu in its similarity to the first two rounds. The White corner throws some blisteringly powerful body combinations whilst Black, once again, attempts to defend himself. A comfortable win for the White corner.

Fight number 2 begins rapidly. From the word ‘go’, it’s evident that this contest will be a nasty one. Just ten seconds into the scuffle, the Black corner lands an arguably illegal punch to the back of the head. Frustrated, his opponent responds with a well timed right hook, followed by a series of fantastic dodges of the Black corner’s long jab.

After a short but amusing verbal exchange, the two fighters resume. The Red corner lands a critical right hook to Black’s unguarded head. Standing just next to the fighters, I hear the contact like a gunshot. Red capitalises on his success, pushing his opponent to the edge of the ring with a well-timed jab.

Our brawl takes a turn for the worse as both fighters land straight right hands to the face, followed by a short yet debilitating combination from the Red corner. Clearly, the scrap has taken its toll on both of our champions, and the fight ends with no clear winner. I can confirm both fighters are uninjured and no animosity exists between them.

We conclude a greatly entertaining day of boxing. “The fights were a lesson for most, but it opened doorways for others.”

Wise words indeed.
