On Remembrance Sunday, November 12, towns and villages across west Dorset will fall silent and remember the lives of those who sacrificed themselves in war.
There are several Remembrance Day services and parades taking place throughout the region, including Bridport, Beaminster, Charmouth and Lyme Regis.
BRIDPORT
This year's event has been organised by Bridport Town Council, Parade Commander Brigadier John Dean, Bridport Team Ministry and a range of forces, community groups, and volunteers.
It will commence with a parade through the town centre by representatives and veterans of HM Armed Forces, and local groups and organisations.
Accompanied by the Wessex Military Band, the parade will move off from East Street at approximately 10.40am following an inspection by the town mayor, Cllr Dave Bolwell.
The mayor will lead the parade and will then lay a wreath as part of the ceremony and observance of the traditional two-minute silence at the War Memorial.
This will be followed by the mayor’s address and the Service of Remembrance in St Mary’s Church. Repeating a change to the arrangements first made in 2021, the parade will not return up South Street after the service.
Town centre road closures will be in place for the parade from 10.30am until approximately 1pm on South Street and East street
Residents and visitors to the town centre are asked not to park in the vicinity of St Mary’s Church after 8am on the morning of Sunday, November 12.
BEAMINSTER
This year’s parade will see those who wish to attend gather outside the Fire Station at 2.20pm on Sunday with the parade setting off at 2.35pm.
Those joining the parade include the Royal British Legion, Beaminster Town Council, The Scouts, Beaminster St Mary’s Academy and Beaminster School, the Women’s Institute and Chris Loder MP.
The route will go down Hogshill Street, around the Square and will finish at St. Mary’s Church where a Remembrance Church Service will be held at 3pm.
Cllr Nigel Corbett, Becky Groves and her team at Little Groves Nursery and electrician Brian Gale have all volunteered their time to once again produce a stunning War Memorial tribute for the town.
There will be road closures at The Square, Hogshill Street, Clay Lane and Church Street in place from 2pm until 3pm.
LYME REGIS
The Remembrance Day Parade will led by the mayor of Lyme Regis David Sarson, the civic party and members of the Royal British Legion.
The parade will assemble at Langmoor Gardens at 9.30am and at 9.45am the procession will march down Broad Street to the church for a special service which starts at 10am.
The procession will then gather at the clock tower at 10.50am ready for a poignant two-minute silence at 11am.
The public are encouraged to line the streets to watch the parade and show their respect.
There will be several roads closures in the town between 9.30am and 11.15am. These include Coombe Street, Monmouth Street, Broad Street, Bridge Street, Church Street.
CHARMOUTH
The Street in Charmouth will be closed from 10.20am until 10.55am for a short parade.
