A NURSERY has been praised for its hard work in making progress after being rated ‘inadequate’ earlier this year.

Kindred Bournemouth, a nursery for children up to four years old on Kinson Road, has been upgraded to ‘good’ after a damning report earlier this year.

After an inspection in May, children were described to be ‘left to wander disengaged’ whilst others were left in repetitious play for extended periods of time.

However, a recent visit found children to be ‘confident’ and behaviour to have ‘greatly improved’ since the last inspection.

Staff were praised for delivering an ‘interesting curriculum’ that considers each child’s needs and interests.

The report said: “For example, when staff find a worm, they encourage the older children to notice its features and measure it to learn about size.

“Staff encourage them to make their own worms from dough.

“Children show great excitement and use their language well to express themselves.”

Targeted training for staff has also been implemented to improve skills in supporting children’s care and sleeping needs.

“In addition, management brings in experienced staff from their sister setting twice a week to role model good practice and raise standards.

“As a result, the staff team has more confidence and implements an effective curriculum.”

The report said that children with special education needs and/ or disabilities are ‘well supported’ and that the SEND coordinator is ‘very knowledgeable’ of children’s needs.

Inspectors found staff to make ‘good use’ of outdoor areas, with children ‘skilfully’ climbing equipment and practice their balancing.
