TWO park cafés in Bournemouth are set to hold festive events.

The Parks Foundation has invited residents to the festivities at Winton Recreation Ground and Redhill Park.

The festivities will feature live music from the student steelpan band from Glenmoor and Winton Academies, a raffle with prizes from businesses, and food and drinks from the cafés.

In the run-up to the celebrations, there will be bird feeder-making sessions, stargazing for beginners, and natural tree decoration craft classes.

Attendees will not only be able to take home their creations, they will also be able to make extra decorations to be displayed in cafés across the conurbation.

John Hanson, chief executive officer of the Parks Foundation, said: “In these colder, darker months some may struggle to get outdoors, especially in the evenings.

“We want to encourage local people to join us for our festive gatherings which offer an opportunity to visit their nearby park, spend some time in nature, and pop into one of our welcoming volunteer-run cafés for a hot drink and a chat.

“The events will be a celebration of community spirit, an opportunity for people to come together and experience their park at a time they may not usually do so, and to find out about the fun, free, nature-based activities we have coming up for local residents in the new year.”

The events will be held at Winton Recreation Ground on Thursday, December 7 and at Redhill Park on Thursday, December 14.

Both will run between 4pm and 7pm.

The charity’s cafés are run almost entirely by volunteers, and profits are reinvested into its work to improve parks across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
