A MAN has admitted causing the death of a teenager by dangerous driving.

Tyrone Franklin pleaded guilty to causing the crash which killed 16-year-old Billy Lardner near Bournemouth Airport.

He also pleaded guilty to failing to stop at the scene of an accident and using a motor vehicle without insurance.

Dorset Police received a report at 9.37pm on Friday, June 30, of a collision involving a Honda Civic and pedestrian Billy.

Emergency services attended but the teenager died at the scene in Parley Lane, Christchurch.

Franklin, aged 25 and of Newfoundland Drive in Poole, had previously pleaded not guilty to causing the death of Billy by dangerous driving, and a trial date had been set for February next year.

However, he pleaded guilty to the charge at Bournemouth Crown Court on Friday, December 15.

The defendant is due to appear at the same court for sentencing on January 26, 2024.

In a statement released by Dorset Police following the fatal crash, Billy’s family said: “Billy has left a hole in our heart that we will never fill, 16 years of fun, laughter and unforgettable memories.

"The best son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend, bar none.”

Bouquets of flowers and touching tributes were also left for Billy at the scene of the crash. One said: “Rest in Peace. Thank you so much for the memories. My favourite Bournemouth fan.”

Another said: “Love you bro. See you again soon.”

Since Billy’s death, a ‘legacy fund’ has raised nearly £20,000 for good causes in his memory.

It describes Billy as a teenager who loved watching football, listening to music, going to gigs, clothes shopping and making memories.

“With everything going on, the family need some time to decide what causes to support but can guarantee every penny will be used wisely - whether it be to pay for grief counselling for other families, support young people - who don’t have the funds - to play football, go to see a football match or get their beloved teams football shirt.”, the Go Fund ME page reads.
