MANY residents will need to use public transport over the festive period.
Whether it's getting to work, visiting loved ones or planning a night out, here's a guide to when buses and train services will be running over Christmas and new year.
Morebus
Christmas Eve
On Christmas Eve, a normal Sunday service will operate on all routes. For routes that don’t usually run on a Sunday, there will be no service.
Christmas Day
A special timetable will operate on the m1 and m2 routes only. No other services will run.
The m1 will run its normal route and m2 will extend through to Christchurch, through Tuckton, then turning right into Barrack Road continuing to Fountain Way.

Boxing Day and New Year's Day
A Sunday service will apply on routes 1a, 1b, 1c, 3 & 4, 5 & 5a, 6, 8, 9, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17, 22, 25 & 26, 40, X3 and X8 with special timetables on the m1/m2 & 50. No other services will operate.
New Year's Eve
There will be a normal Sunday service on all routes. For routes that don’t usually run on a Sunday, there will be no service. An extra journey will run on the 5a route at 12.30am.
December 27, 28 and 29
Saturday service on all routes except 18, 24, 33, 38, 737, 119, 120, 125, 191, 193, X1, X2, X3, X6 and X8 which will run to a normal Friday timetable. Earlier journeys will be provided on routes 1a, 8, 9, 13, 14, 16, 17, 22 and 25.
South Western Railway
Passengers are advised to check before they travel and plan ahead over Christmas.
Christmas Eve
Services will run to a Sunday timetable subject to engineering work. Services will finish at around 10pm.
However, the lines in the Southampton Central area will be closed all day due to maintenance work.
London Waterloo to Weymouth services will terminate at Southampton Airport Parkway and from 6.15pm will terminate at Eastleigh.
A revised service will run between Brockenhurst, Bournemouth, Poole and Weymouth.
Fast buses will run between Southampton Airport Parkway, Southampton Central and Brockenhurst, and from Eastleigh from 6.15pm.
Christmas Day and Boxing Day
On Christmas Day and Boxing Day, there will be no services running at all.
December 27 to 30
Between Wednesday, December 27 and Saturday, December 30, services will run to a Saturday timetable, subject to engineering work.
New Year’s Eve
Trains will run to a Sunday timetable, subject to engineering work.
South Western Railway said additional overnight departures from London Waterloo will also be running.
New Year’s Day
Services will run to a Sunday timetable, subject to engineering work.
CrossCountry
CrossCountry has said: "Please be aware that services will finish earlier than usual on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve over the holiday period.
"We are also expecting that some services may be subject to cancellations or changes to planned timetables.
"We ask that check your entire journey before you travel, including your return."
