A MONTH’S worth of disruption is expected as work to build a new cycle lane in Poole begins.

Starting from next Monday, January 8, a section of Darbys Lane will be closed as part of BCP Council’s new sustainable travel route to Poole town centre.

A signed diversion route will be in place during the closure, expected to last until Friday, February 9, which will take drivers via Dorchester Road.

Work is anticipated to start at the Heath Avenue and Popes Road junction down to the New Inn junction at Wimborne Road, where plant pots are placed in the road.

The path leading to Trigon Bridge will be widened as part of the work along with double yellow lines painted.

Elsewhere, the pavement near Oakdale Community Park will be widened to install uncontrolled crossings to “make it safer and easier for pedestrians to cross the road and encourage lower vehicle speeds”.

The project will be funded by central government’s Transforming Cities Fund, giving Dorset Council and BCP Council £102million in south east Dorset

Two-way traffic lights will also be in place in the part of Darbys Lane which isn’t closed.
