OVER 150 calls were made to the Dorset Fire Service as flooding hit large areas of the County yesterday afternoon.

Torrential rain caused flooding across Dorset, leaving roads blocked and some houses flooded.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they had received 154 callouts, 119 calls to flooding near properties and 35 calls to vehicles in water.

A spokesperson for the Fire Service said: "We received 119 calls to flooding near property and 35 calls to vehicles in water between 6pm yesterday and 12.45am today, but that was across the whole Service area and we didn’t attend the majority of incidents as there was nothing we could do to help.

"Within Dorset since 5pm yesterday, we attended four incidents of people stuck in their cars in floodwater, at Thornford, Storton Caundle, Willett Road in Poole and Millhams Road in Bournemouth.

Firefighters were called to Brimble Rise in Stourton Caundle after a report of a car in floodwater at around 6pm last night.

One crew from Sherborne arrived but the occupant had got themselves to safety before their arrival.

Two crews were then called to Thronford, near Sherborne at 8.40pm last night.

The crews from Yeovil attended at Thornford and moved a car to safety with the occupants still inside, who then were able to wait for recovery.
