WORK has begun on a new cycle lane on a main road in Poole.
Closures are now in place at the Heath Avenue and Popes Road junction of Darbys Lane to allow for a month's worth of work.
BCP Council will be installing a new cycle lane along the road, path widening for pedestrians and freshly painted double yellow lines.
A speed bump will be installed across the Darbys Lane/Heath Avenue/Popes Road junction “to help lower vehicle speeds”.
The project will be funded by central government’s Transforming Cities Fund giving Dorset Council and BCP Council £102m in south east Dorset.
Two-way traffic lights will also be in place in the part of Darbys Lane which isn’t closed.
The work will continue until Friday, February 8 and end at the New Inn junction at Wimborne Road, where plant pots are placed in the road.
Julian McLaughlin, director for infrastructure at BCP Council, said he is "pleased" to see the work go ahead as it is part of the authority's commitment to active travel.
He added that the aim is to create a "greener, healthier, better-connected community".
