CHERRIES’ under-18s stormed to a 5-0 win at St James’ Park on Tuesday night, cruising past Newcastle United in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup.

James Lowy’s side found themselves 4-0 up at the break through Ash Clarke, a brace from Jonny Stuttle, and Jack Holman.

Stuttle completed his hat-trick in the second period with Cherries easily seeing out the game to secure safe passage to the fifth round, where they will face Tottenham Hotspur away from home.

It took Cherries just a minute to open scores, with Clarke slotting past Toon keeper Adam Harrison to bag his third FA Youth Cup goal of the season after being slipped in by Stuttle.

The game entered a lull for the next half-hour, before provider turned goalscorer for Cherries.

Stuttle held the ball up under pressure from a Newcastle defender, before rifling home from the edge of the area.

That kicked off a goalscoring spell for the away side, with right-back Holman converting a free-kick 10 minutes later.

Remy Rees-Dottin was hauled down inside the area on the stroke of half-time after being released by Clarke, allowing Stuttle to make it four from the spot.

Cherries were not done there, with Stuttle rounding off his treble five minutes into the second period.

Clarke, who had been a creative threat throughout, returned the favour for the opening goal, teeing up Stuttle to cooly slot home Cherries’ fifth.

Victory very much secured, Cherries saw off the remaining 40 minutes in professional fashion, with Newcastle unable to find any consolation.

The fifth-round tie with Spurs must be completed by Saturday, February 10, with the winners advancing to the quarter-finals.

Cherries’ best runs in the competition to date have been to the quarter-final stage, last doing so in 2019.
