A MAN who hit an elderly woman in his car and left her for dead has been jailed.
Lewis Griffiths-Bungard was driving a Citroen C1 without an insurance or driving licence when he crashed into Jill Stevens, 75.
The 26-year-old failed to stop at the scene of the crash in Old Milton Road, New Milton, on March 24, 2022.
New Milton resident Jill was crossing the road when she was hit and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Bungard, of Vaggs Lane, Hordle, was sentenced today at Southampton Crown Court (February 6) for causing death by careless driving, causing death while driving uninsured and causing death while driving unlicensed.
He was sent to prison for 27 months and disqualified for a further four years upon release.
Meanwhile the owner of the Citroen, Hannah Marrion, 29, also of Vaggs Lane, Hordle, was sentenced for perverting the course of justice.
She had originally claimed her fiancée Griffiths-Bungard did not have her permission to drive her vehicle, according to Hampshire Police.
She was sentenced to six months imprisonment.
Previously paying tribute to Jill, her family said: “Jill was a wonderful, caring person, much loved by all her family and friends.
"Her Christian life was evident to all who knew her, and she was of great importance to so many people.”
