A WOMAN has been left furious after a bus stop was moved outside her property with "no warning".

Lynne Simmons, 78, has been left angry at BCP Council after the bus stop was created on the road outside her Poole home.

The Wimborne Road resident told the Echo she has had to install a £400 fence to avoid locals sitting on her wall and to protect herself after she was verbally abused by those who waited at the bus stop.

She said: "The new sign was put up last week while I was in my garden, I was gone five minutes and when I came back I thought a bunch of pigeons were on my wall.

"I went out there to ask them to move as it is my garden and my wall and then they started swearing at me and saying 'I'll do one on you', one even said 'I know where you live'."

Lynne first noticed the notion of a bus stop three months ago when the kerb was raised.

While she took no notice at the time, the arrival of the the temporary bus stop has her worried it will become permanent after a workman suggested a bus shelter would soon be installed.

She said: "The old bus stop was two doors down and there always has been issues with rubbish. I used to go in there and pick all the rubbish up and put it in the bin."

"I've already had people leave rubbish in my garden and at one point I found three beer cans and cigarette butts."

She has asked for the stop to be moved and says she has been left shocked by the lack of communication.

Julian McLaughlin, director for infrastructure at BCP Council said it carried out a public consultation on the proposed travel route between Poole and Merley in 2021.

A traffic regulation order for the bus stop relocation was promoted to residents in the same year before further updates followed in 2022 and 2023.

He said: “A permanent bus stop has been relocated along Wimborne Road in Poole...for safety reasons.

“The move means people using the upgraded toucan crossing and drivers travelling south have better, all-round visibility.

“We are sorry to hear a resident has received verbal abuse outside their home, which is totally unacceptable, and advise them to report any anti-social behaviour to Dorset Police.”
