THE train in Poole Park is set to reopen tomorrow.

The service was suspended until further notice by BCP Council on Tuesday, following another derailment of the train on Monday morning, February 12.

The local authority said the same carriage of the train, named Howard, keeps coming off the tracks.

This is ‘despite assurances’ from the manufacturer that the problem had been fixed.

The council has now confirmed that the train, which runs on a circuit around the lake in the park, will reopen on Friday, February 16.

Councillor Mike Cox, portfolio holder for finance, said: “Following its derailment on 12 February, the council ordered an external investigation of the railway which uncovered specific issues with one particular carriage.

“This was the same carriage which derailed at the end of last year, despite repairs and assurances from the manufacturer that the issue had been resolved.

“Working alongside the manufacturer, the council has now taken to decision to remove this carriage from service entirely.

“We would like to reassure residents that the investigation found no further faults with this attraction, and that the track, engine and other carriages have not been affected. The safety and wellbeing of Poole Park Railway passengers remains the council's top priority.”

Prior to the latest derailment, the train fell off the tracks in December, prompting an official investigation from the council.

The railway is run by council-employed railway supervisors and a team of volunteers.
