RESURFACING work on a road ditched by contractors last week will only finish a day late.

The work in Ensbury Park Road, Bournemouth, will finish on Saturday, February 24 instead of on Friday.

And it’s not because of a change of contractors, as reported last week by the Echo.

According to Morebus, recent heavy rainfall has led to workmen needing an extra day to complete the resurfacing work.

A spokesman said: “Due to the recent weather, the closure on Ensbury Park Road will need to be extended by an extra day – it is now anticipated to reopen by the end of Saturday, February 24.”

Essex-based contractors ditched the work two days after starting because ‘surveys were not done properly and they discovered a pipe at the Wimborne Road end’.

Cllr Andy Hadley, portfolio holder for environment and energy, previously said he didn’t expect the change of contractor to affect the completion date.

He added a “thorough site investigation” was carried out by an independent team of specialists.

“Because of the shallow depth of the pipes, their age and fragility, the risk of breaking them during our planned work was assessed to be too high and could cause more damage and disruption if continued,” he said.
