A CAR was towed away after its driver was uninsured.

Police officers were on patrol around Bournemouth town centre earlier this week “targeting traffic related offences”.

However, the officers came across a silver Vauxhall Zafira with a defective headlight.

The car was pulled over and, while doing checks, officers found the driver was uninsured.

It was then seized and the driver was reported for using a car in a public place without third party insurance.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: “This offence carries a £300 fine and six penalty points.

“Dorset Police advises that drivers regularly check their driving documents to ensure that they are not committing any offences.”

It follows a day of action against bad parking in which 15 fines were issued to vehicles parked in the wrong place in the Ensbury Park, Winton and Charminster areas of Bournemouth.

Concerns raised by frustrated residents and ward councillors telling the police of cars parking on pavements in recent weeks.

During the day of action held on Friday, February 23), neighbourhood police officers worked with traffic wardens from BCP Council to ticket and warn drivers.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: “If parking on a road with double yellow lines or on a pavement adjacent to double yellow lines, a fine can be issued up to £70 by civil enforcement officers.

“If there is an obstruction on the pavement where pedestrians cannot pass safely, this is an offence and police can issue a ticket which will lead to a fine."
