A SUSPECTED shoplifter “spat at” a Tesco worker and racially abused them.
The man was trying to leave Tesco Express in Southbourne Grove, Bournemouth, on Wednesday evening, February 28 when he was challenged by a staff member because he ‘didn’t pay for the items’.
When being spoken to, he reportedly racially abused the worker before spitting and pushing them away, said Dorset Police.
But also when searching the man’s bag, a Stanley knife was found inside.
Police were called at about 9.10pm and officers arrested a man from Bournemouth, 53, on suspicion of a string of offences.
It included on suspicion of racially or religiously aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and theft.
A spokesman for Dorset Police said: “He has been released on police bail as enquiries continue.”
