OFFICERS have arrested a man for causing criminal damage in Bournemouth.

Police Constable Dominic and Inspector Ady responded to a call from staff monitoring CCTV of a man acting aggressively on Old Christchurch Road.

Before police arrived at the scene, that man damaged an ATM by kicking and punching it.

CCTV operators were able to follow the suspect, and Dominic and Ady caught up with him and arrested him for causing criminal damage.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “The male became quite agitated, and our patrol colleagues from D Squad supported us to take the male into custody in the back of the van as this was safer for all involved.”

The suspect is in custody, and Dorset Police say they will contact the bank for a victim statement on the damage caused.

The Dorset Police spokesperson added: “Bournemouth Town Centre has excellent CCTV staff who were able to track the suspect and direct officers. They are an integral part of the Town Team – our eyes in the sky.

“We will also link up with the Council ASB Team to consider any opportunities for a civil order to ban the individual from the town; if successful details will be shared across the Town Team for awareness to enforce the orders. “Behaviours such as this will not be tolerated in the town.”
