A COMMUNITY group will ‘clean and enrich’ Churchill Gardens in Boscombe.
More than 70 volunteers from BCP Bring Community Power will descend on the gardens on April 6 at 10am to spruce them up, as their first project since the group was founded in January.
Group organiser, Simone Ippolito, said: “We're going to clean all the clutter around, we're going to clean all the dead leaves and the rubbish around the gardens, especially around the perimeter.
“We're going to fill in a lot of potholes that we identified around the gardens, which are very dangerous for kids to play in.
“We're also going to clean all of the equipment that is there, and the fences.”
He said the group would also like to ‘enrich’ the area by planting flowers and plants, with the council’s permission, and asked the council to let the group know what they can do in the area.
“Please, let's work together on that and let us know where we can do things and how can we both, together, help the area and promote the area better,” Simone said.
The group has partnered with Churchill Gardens Association and the garden’s community association that will help in the project.
It is fundraising for it to buy tools and equipment and is looking for businesses to sponsor the group.
“It will be good to see as many people as possible there on the day anybody is free to come,” Simone said.
“The only thing that we require is a positive attitude to it.”
“Churchill Gardens was by far the most voted one,” Simone said.
“For me, it's quite a good thing that that was the one chosen because I feel it's quite an area that is not so popular, Boscombe, but I think it's got so much potential and hidden beauty and value to it, for the people that live locally there.”
The group is aiming to do one big project a month, with each chosen by the community.
