JUDGES in the 2008 Great Taste Awards have given the thumbs up to Dorset Cereals, who received six Gold awards at the annual event.

The Company has been presented with a Gold three-star award for its Berries and Cherries Muesli and Gold one-star awards for its Super High Fibre, Toasted Spelt and Date, and Banana Fruity Porridge.

One-star Gold awards were also given for Dorset Cereals' Date and Pecan, and Pistachio and Pumpkin Seed Chunky Slices, which were launched earlier in the year.

"The team at Dorset Cereals is delighted to win these awards, as it is a real reflection of the time and care that is put into selecting and blending the best ingredients possible to create our recipes," explains MD Patrick Horton. "We are all especially pleased to win awards for our chunky slices and porridge - as this confirms that we are no longer just an award-winning muesli company!"

The awards, which are organised by the Guild of Fine Food, are often referred to as the Oscars of the food world, as the Great Taste Awards are the most highly respected award schemes in the industry, with every entry blind-tasted by a panel of expert judges.

Also scooping awards were Dorset-based Edeli Ltd, who source and import to the UK some of Spain's finest produce. They were presented with a much-desired two star Gold Great Taste Award for Sotolongo Sweet Moscatel Balsamic Vinegar 15 Year Reserve.

  • Come rain or shine, beer lovers should get themselves down to The Weld Arms' Beer Festival this weekend, although you'll want to leave the car behind.

The East Lulworth pub will have a range of local ciders and more than 30 different real ales to try, as well as many Happy Hours to enjoy.

There will be a whole host of entertainment over the weekend, whatever the weather, with a family day on Saturday, when you can meet and be entertained by the effervescent juggler Fiery Jack, have your face painted or join in at the Open Mike Session, plus lots more.

Food will be provided, thanks to a barbecue and hog roast.

Meanwhile live music will come courtesy of a selection of local bands and musicians, including a set by national rockers The Rock Gods.

Held in aid of the local Careline Appeal Charity, the entry for this festival will be by donation and there will be free buses running to the event.
