THE revival of TV talent shows seems to have opened the flood-gate to all manner of acts who want to have ago at achieving their five minutes of fame.

It could account for the many senior or retired individuals who have found the confidence to face the judges at the Echo-backed Search for a Star talent show.

The Diamond Sisters - two senior ladies in spangled mini dresses who normally sing around elderly care homes typified the new-found exuberance of the older generation.

Retired market trader Michael Dolan, from Poole, gave us gutsy performances of Love is All and You Raise Me up to win the Audience Vote (and third place from the judges) and a place in the August 22 final.

The comedy of Clipboard George,' retired stage manager, needed work, but he raised a smile by singing and dancing to The Twist. But the worthy winner was singer/guitarist IT worker Martin Crowlee from Poole.

Second was Weymouth karaoke host and DJ Stevie M, while Ply-mouth DJ Jacob James was joint third with singer Michael Dolan.
