HAS anyone seen our bass player?
Last seen wandering off into the Lansdowne night nearly 30 years ago, Steve Jeff - erstwhile bass player with Bournemouth-based new wave band Tours - is being hunted down by his former bandmates.
Richard Branson's Virgin label won a bidding war to sign the band in 1979 after they pressed, produced and distributed their debut 7" double A side single, Language School/Foreign Girls. Original copies of the single are now highly prized sums by record collectors.
Co-founded by Ronnie Mayor and Richard Mazda, the band gigged voraciously around Bournemouth and beyond in the late-1970s. Although they worked on an album for Virgin, the band argued with Branson's people and Ronnie quit.
Richard now lives in New York where he runs a theatre, directs music videos and makes documentaries. Ronnie spent years living in Australia and Brazil, but has recently spent more time in his native Poole, while drummer Marc Spiers plays in Bournemouth band Bird Jaguar.
Now the three of them would like to find their bassist.
