LYMINGTON'S Nick Rogers and 470 class team-mate Joe Glanfield climbed to fifth place in the overall standings after a much-improved day yesterday.
The duo, silver medallists in Athens four years ago, were placed 10th overnight after an indifferent start to the regatta on Monday, but made up vital ground with a win and a fourth place in Qingdao yesterday.
"We sailed well today and made some good decisions," said Glanfield.
"None of it was particularly easy, especially in the second race which was a hard-fought fourth.
"Some of our main opposition also did well but we can't control that so we just have to stick in and try to get some good results for ourselves.
"It's really close and there are a lot of people sailing well and so much you can gain or lose every race.
"Obviously we'd like to re-sail our first race but we can't and we've just got to try and get on with it.
"But I think that there are plenty more big scores to come in this week."
Rogers and Glanfield were duo out for races five and six this morning, while Finn class leader Ben Ainslie and the top-ranked Yngling crew of Sarah Ayton, Sarah Webb and Lymington's Pippa Wilson were also due back in action this morning for races seven and eight in their classes.
