CLEARLY captivated by prime Sly Stone and smitten by early '70s Stevie Wonder, Philly's hip hoppin' rap-rocker G Love also manages to sneak bits of The Beatles, Beck, Steely Dan, Lenny Kravitz, Chili Peppers and Terence Trent D'Arby into this overcooked blandarama.
They go for G Love & Special Sauce in a major way Stateside, but then their mass market mainstream revels in the humdrum. However classy the ingredients, this Special Sauce has failed to tickle our tastebuds on its 10 previous servings and although this might be spicier don't expect too much.
The opening Communication channels Hey Bulldog into a bluesy funk workout, while Crumble tries to invoke Gamble-Huff's heyday - only the super-silly Who's Got the Weed offers any relief.
