Search for a Star, Heat 4, Pier Theatre
THIS is what talent shows at their best are all about - music and comedy with a sprinkle of British eccentricity.
But what made this night special was the star potential of so many of the competitors.
With only three places remaining for next Friday's Gala Final it was inevitable that some would be disappointed.
No stranger to success in this competition - formerly called the Echo Star Trail - Bournemouth singer Michelle Wright demonstrated maturity and originality in her voice as she sang a mix of blues and gospel. It was an impeccable, commanding performance.
Comedy is notoriously difficult to do but work colleagues from JP Morgan - "Morgan Brothers" Dave and Matt - took the runners-up prize and audience vote.
The routine was rather rambling, anarchic and over-ran but there was a special chemistry between these two that could be nurtured into an excellent double act.
Third place went to pastry chef Graham Oliver who won us over with a beautiful voice perfectly suited to the James Blunt and Michael Buble numbers he chose.
The evening also featured a fantastic display of street dance by Jake/Next Level' and some really amusing comic poetry by the glamorous Wendy Huntley (I loved the Toy Boy piece!) Sadly Aylesha Hassan had a throat infection that left her barely able to speak yet she did a song and dance routine that suggested she is another highly promising talent.
Friday is going to be an absolutely cracking final!
