A TAKEAWAY will replace a music and video shop on Gillingham's High Street.
Members of the town council's planning committee gave the green light to an application for the sale and delivery of Italian, Indian and Mexican dishes from the Dorset House premises.
A ventilation duct is to be installed to deal with smells from the kitchen.
Cllr Janet Robson questioned the need for another fast food outlet in the town, arguing that it would generate litter.
Mrs Robson's concerns were shared by Cllr Mick Lodge, who also voiced concern about the effectiveness of the ventilation duct.
The laws of supply and demand would govern the number of takeways in Gillingham, said Cllr Fred Evill.
But all members of the planning committee voted in favour, except Mrs Robson, after hearing from the applicant.
