BUSINESSMAN Richard Carr will no longer stand to be an MP at this year’s general election.
The 65-year-old chief executive of Fortitudo was standing to be MP for Poole with Reform in response to ‘Tory failings’ across the country.
However, the Poole-based business mogul has told the Echo he has dropped out of the race because he “doesn’t have enough time” to dedicate to an election campaign.
He said he wanted to spend more time with his young children and continue to focus on his property development business as it continues to expand.
Fortitudo has recently started to expand into the student accommodation market. Already, the firm has recently been awarded approval for new luxury student digs in Hinton Road, Bournemouth.
As reported, Mr Carr intended to step into politics because “virtually every service is broken” in the country and warned Britain is now at a crossroads where “common sense” is needed to fix things.
But it is what he felt was a lack of action or interest from existing MP Sir Robert Syms that tipped him over the edge to run for parliament earlier this year.
At the time of print, no candidate has been announced to replace him for Reform.
