A school in Poole has been nominated for an awards ceremony dubbed the 'Oscars of education'.

St Edward's School on Dale Valley Road has been shortlisted in the 'Staff Wellbeing School of the Year'.

The Tes (Times Educational Supplement) Schools Awards 2024 brings independent and state schools together to "celebrate excellence across the whole education sector".

Award categories up for grabs include 'Boarding School of the Year', Inclusive School of the Year and 'Teaching Assistant of the Year' among others.

The winners will be revealed at a ceremony at the Grosvenor Hotel, Park Lane on Friday, June 21.

St Edward's School says it is "committed to preparing young people to live life to the full" on its website.

Discussing their staff wellbeing work, the school mentioned it had created several initiatives "to promote physical health, mental wellness, and work-life balance".

This included making an extra effort to care for staff during peak pressure points in the school calendar, such as allocating ‘wellbeing time’, and providing Friday afternoon ‘cakes with quizzes’ events.

In response to the nomination, Executive Headteacher Mr Michael Antram said: “I am delighted to see our school among just eight shortlisted for this award, which is open to state and independent schools across the country.

“Staff wellbeing is a key priority for us, underpinned by our school ethos: “May We Be One.” From senior leaders and staff and students – we are a community, working together towards a common goal.
