A RAIRLY, RAIRLY soooper adaptation of the Nancy Mitford novel (which in turn is pretty much an adaptation of her own eccentric upper class family life).
Following the fortunes of three eligible young gels: Fanny the abandoned daughter of "The Boulter", a woman famed for her elopements; Polly, an heiress who fancies her pervy uncle; and Linda, who yearns to escape her crumbling ancestral pile.
As Europe prepares for the Second World War, our trio prepare for coming out, love and, hopefully, marriage.
Best character: Alan Bates as barking mad aristo dad. Best line (Linda, in horror on being handed her newborn baby): "It looks like a screaming orange wearing a black wig." Brilliant.
